
Runnin' Bulldogs Earn All-CCSA Honors in 200 Medley Relay, Move Up to Fourth on Day Two of CCSA Championships

Athens, Ga. - Senior Laurenn Singleton finaled in three events, including GWU's All-Conference 200 medley relay team, and sophomore Charity Byrum finished fourth in the 100 breast to help Gardner-Webb move from fifth to fourth in the women's team standings on day two of the 2013 CCSA Championships.
GWU moved up to fourth with a total tally of 242 points over the first two days. Georgia Southern currently stands in third place with 300.5 points and North Florida is fifth with 226 points.
Gardner-Webb opened Friday night the way it needed, starting off the finals session with an All-Conference performance in the 200 medley relay. Laurenn Singleton (26.97), Charity Byrum (28.64), Giorgie Graves (25.19), and Mary O'Doherty (23.18) teamed up to finish in third place in the event, turning in a time of 1:43.98.
The race from Singleton, Byrum, Graves, and O'Doherty marked the first All-CCSA relay finish for the Runnin' Bulldog women since 2011 CCSA Championships.
Senior Michelle Palacio (Charlotte, N.C.) kept GWU's momentum going in the 400 I.M. Palacio earned an 11th place finish during finals of the event, erasing the personal best she achieved in prelims with a time of 4:29.42 on Friday night.
CJay Wiley (Savannah, Ga.) added a 13th place showing in the event for the Runnin' Bulldogs. The sophomore moved up in finals to finish 13th, scoring valuable points thanks to a season best time of 4:31.62 in the 400 I.M.
Gardner-Webb put two in the Top 8 of the 100 fly. Graves (Riverview, Fla.) led GWU in the event, finishing sixth with a time of 55.81. The freshman swam a GWU-best 55.63 during prelims of the event.
Laurenn Singleton (Elkin, N.C.) added an eighth place finish after swimming 56.99 during finals. The senior tied her personal best in Friday morning's prelims session after finishing in 56.29.
In the consolation heat, O'Doherty (Charlotte, N.C.) set a personal best time of 56.51, securing a 12th place finish with the swim.
The 200 free saw sophomore Jenna Ballinger (Lexington, Ky.) race to a season best time of 1:52.62 and a 12th place finish in finals. Junior Faith Kempf (Sterling, Kan.) added a season best time of 1:52.74, moving up to take 13th in the event.
Byrum (Winston-Salem, N.C.) gave GWU a fourth place finish in the 100 breast, moving up in finals with a time of 1:02.92 to record her second Top 8 finish of the meet. The sophomore standout recorded a season best time of 1:02.91 during prelims of the event.
Junior Anna Springer (Snellville, Ga.) raced to a personal best time, moving up six spots in finals to win the consolation heat of the 100 breast with a personal best time of 1:04.35.
Laurenn Singleton led GWU in the 100 back, finishing 13th (57.91) Friday night. Singleton achieved a season best time of 57.64 in prelims of the event.
In Friday's final event, the 800 free relay, Gardner-Webb achieved a sixth place finish and a season best time of 7:36.79. Graves (1:54.17), Ballinger (1:54.97), Madi Dinsmore (1:53.39), and Kempf (1:54.26) teamed up to record the fifth fastest performance for Gardner-Webb all-time in the event.
Day three's prelims session is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the Gabrielson Natatorium.
