
GWU's Palacio, Searle, and Van Halsema Honored at Academic Awards Ceremony

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb swimming student-athletes Michelle Palacio, Brandon Searle, and Liz Van Halsema were recognized for outstanding academic performance at the University's Academic Awards ceremony.
The tradition of academic success for GWU's swimming program continued at Tuesday's ceremony.
Palacio (Charlotte, N.C.), a senior with a double major in Global Studies and Political Science, received the Political Science Award given for excellence in her major field of study. The award adds to an impressive collegiate career for the four-time CCSA All-Academic recipient.
Searle (Melbourne, Fla.) was rewarded for his hard work in the classroom when he received the First Year History Award for demonstration of superior understanding in Western Civilization. The sophomore has made the CCSA All-Academic team in each of his first two years at Gardner-Webb.
Van Halsema further carried on the tradition of academic success by receiving both the Professional Writing Award as well as the J. Calvin Koonts Poetry Award. Van Halsema, a senior English major, has excelled in the General Writing program, demonstrating advanced skills in multiple genres of writing. The Charlotte, N.C. native has been named to the CCSA All-Academic team four times.
