Charlotte, N.C. (TheCCSA.com) - The Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) has announced a three-team conference expansion of the University of the Incarnate Word, the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
The change will take effect beginning in the upcoming 2013-14 competition season.
The CCSA's decision to expand the conference pushes League membership to include seven men's teams. The new trio of UIW, UMBC, and NJIT each have men's programs to add to the mix in a revamped CCSA.
In addition, the University of the Incarnate Word (San Antonio, Texas) boasts a women's team that will supplement an already competitive conference.
UIW's men's program enters its seventh season of competition in 2013-14, while its women's programs will begin its twelfth year. The Cardinals wrapped up their Division II tenure last season, earning fourth (women) and third place (men) finishes at Division II national championships.
UMBC's men's program will open its 28th season of competition in 2013-14. The Retrievers' men's team won their 19th conference championship this past season, winning the America East Conference Championship. UMBC has also competed within the East Coast and Northeast Conferences in its history.
NJIT will compete as a Division I affiliate for the fifth season as it joins the CCSA in 2013-14. The Highlander's men's swimming program opened in 1967-68 and has competed at the Division I, II and III levels.
The 2013-14 CCSA competition season starts in September and the CCSA Championships are scheduled for Feb. 20-22, 2014 in Knoxville, Tenn.
