Gainesville, Fla. - Sophomore Alex
Young competed at the vaunted Florida Relays over the weekend,
representing Gardner-Webb by competing in the men's hammer
throw.
Young (LaVergne, Tenn.) tossed 58.17 m at the prestigious meet,
placing 11th in a stacked field that included coach Andy
Fryman.
Fryman, the throwing coach for GWU track & field, placed 2nd
in the event with a distance of 71.19 m.
Young's performance at the Florida Relays serves as the latest
highlight in what has been an eventful one-and-a-half seasons as a
Runnin' Bulldog that includes qualifying for the Junior Pan-Am
Games in Medellin, Colombia following his freshman season and
earning Second-Team All-America honors (13th) in the men's weight
throw as a sophomore.
Freshman Tyler Craig (Talking Rock, Ga.) also competed at the
Florida Relays, recording no height in the men's pole vault. Craig,
the Big South's Freshman of the Year in the Indoor season, recorded
a season best mark of 4.80 m earlier this Outdoor season.
Gardner-Webb track & field next competes at the Carolinas
Cup (Rock Hill, S.C.) on Thursday, April 10.
