CHARLESTON, S.C. – Gardner-Webb standout Seth Cranfill earned honorable mention FCS Tight End Performer of the Week honors from College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Tuesday morning.
Cranfill (Sherrill's Ford, N.C. / Bandys HS) has been honored by CFPA twice in the past three weeks. The 6-foot-4, 246-pound redshirt senior caught seven passes for 65 yards at The Citadel Saturday night, with four of those catches going for first downs.
Cranfill broke the Big South Conference career mark for tight end receptions with his effort in Charleston, moving past former Coastal Carolina standout David Duran. Cranfill now has 69 career receptions for 685 yards and four touchdowns in just 26 career games with the Runnin' Bulldogs. He ranks second on the team this season with 16 catches for 187 yards and two scores – with both touchdowns coming in a 43-36 win over Wofford on September 20.
Cranfill already holds the Big South Conference marks for single-game receptions (nine in 2012 vs. Samford) and single-season receptions (37 for 366 yards and two TD in 2012). He needs just 11 catches to pull even with former All-Big South tight end Jason Bright for the top spot in Gardner-Webb history.
Bright (1999-2002), played just one season in the Big South Conference, catching 27 passes for 242 yards and two scores to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs to a 9-1 record and the league's first football crown.
Gardner-Webb (2-3) returns home Saturday to host Charlotte at 1:30 pm in Ernest W. Spangler Stadium. The game will air live on ESPN3 (WatchESPN.com), with Mike Hogewood and Renaldo Wynn calling the action. wgwg.org will also broadcast the game, anchored by Fabian Fuentes, Ben Fuller and Alex Guest.
