
Saint Francis Rallies For Thursday Victory Over Gardner-Webb

BOILING SPRINGS --- Emma Rose (Weston, Fla.) tallied two goals to pace Gardner-Webb on Thursday evening, as Saint Francis (Pa.) scored six straight goals to rally from an early deficit for a 15-6 victory over the Runnin' Bulldogs in non-conference play at Spangler Stadium.
Saint Francis (2-2) outshot Gardner-Webb (0-5) by a 38-24 margin on the night, including a 20-7 advantage in the first half, while winning 17-of-23 draw controls and converting 10-of-11 clear attempts. Each team scooped up 11 ground balls.
Rose led the way for Gardner-Webb with two goals on six shots, as Amanda Steinmuller (Ellicott, Md.), Monique Martin (Tyngsborough, Mass.), Lindsey Lippert (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Cassidy McDowell (Cincinnati, Ohio) each tallied one goal.
Martin and Lippert both added an assist, while Martin controlled four draws and Steinmuller caused five turnovers and scooped up four ground balls. Raygan Hall (Cleveland, Tenn.) made a season-high 12 saves between the pipes.
Jessica Fischetti paced Saint Francis with three goals and two assists, while Rebecca Meyer added three goals and one assist of her own. Lindsay Ingram, Sarah Mahon and Sydney Shearer each scored two goals, while Katie Schaaf dished out four assists. Heather McKee stopped seven of the 13 shots she faced.
Gardner-Webb struck first, building a 2-0 lead through early strikes from McDowell and Martin before Saint Francis answered, scoring five straight to snatch a 5-2 advantage on back-to-back tallies from Fischetti. A Steinmuller strike would cut the margin to 5-3 moments later, as Saint Francis capped the first half with two late goals to take a 7-3 advantage into the break.
Rose answered for the Runnin' Bulldogs at the 26:32 mark in the second half, cutting the lead to 7-4 before the Red Flash countered with five straight strikes, widening the gap to 12-4 with a Meyer goal at 11:35.
Lippert and Rose each found the back of the net in the next five minutes for Gardner-Webb, trimming the margin to 13-6 before a pair of late goals gave Saint Francis the final 15-6 advantage.
Gardner-Webb returns to action next Thursday, March 12 when the Runnin' Bulldogs travel to Clinton, S.C. to take on Big South Conference foe Presbyterian College in a non-conference matchup at 4:00 pm.
