BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb women's basketball assistant coach Dominique Hudson has accepted an assistant coaching position with North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
"I mentor all of my assistant coaches to advance in the coaching profession. Dom is a special one to me, having coached her for four years and the past three as an assistant," remarked Gardner-Webb women's basketball head coach Rick Reeves. "My wife Mona and I love her like a daughter and we both will miss her very much. I know she will do a great job at N.C. A&T and look forward to seeing her do fantastic things up in Greensboro."
Hudson has been an assistant at Gardner-Webb for the last three seasons, where she has worked primarily with the perimeter players. She graduated from Gardner-Webb in 2011 with a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management.
"Gardner-Webb has been like a second home to me. I feel like they gave me the opportunity to grow into a more mature young woman but also as a coach," commented Dominique Hudson. I am really going to miss everyone especially all the players. I have encountered a lot of great people and am forever grateful to Gardner-Webb and Coach Reeves for giving me a scholarship and providing me with my first coaching job."
During her playing career at Gardner-Webb, Hudson was a two-time Big South All-Conference First-Team selection, a three-time Big South All-Tournament honoree and was tabbed the 2011 Big South Women's Basketball Championship Tournament Most Valuable Player as she led the Runnin' Bulldogs to their first-ever conference championship, as well as postseason appearance.
A native of Rocky Mount, N.C., Hudson had the unique experience of playing alongside her twin sister Monique during her four-year career with the Runnin' Bulldogs.
The guard tandem torched their opponents in their four years in Boiling Springs, compiling 80 victories and three-straight conference championships. The Hudson twins ended their collegiate careers on a high note, as they led the Runnin' Bulldogs to their first-ever Big South Championship title with a 67-66 victory over Liberty and earned the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Hudson graduated as the school's fifth all-time leading scorer with 1,407 points and is first in the GWU record books for games played (129), free-throws made (419), minutes (3,545), and assists (579).
