Seven Women's Soccer Players Honored By NCCSIA

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Seven Gardner-Webb women's soccer players earned recognition from the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) on Monday afternoon with a place on the All-State University Division first or second team.
Erin Shamleffer (Huntingtown, Md. / Huntingtown HS), Brittany DeLoach (Newnan, Ga. / Northgate HS), Stina Kleppe ( Dahlske videregående skole / Skien, Norway), Jada Newton (Woodbridge, Va. / Osborn Park HS) and Maddie Turlington (Roanoke, Texas / Byron Nelson HS) all earned First-Team All-State honors. Keely Brown (Cincinnati, Ohio / Cincinnati Christian School) and Samuelle Grove (Ottawa, Canada / Homeschooled) were named Second-Team NCCSIA All-State.
The NCCSIA All-State University Division includes players from NCAA Division I schools, while the College Division contains players from NCAA Division II and III institutions. Gardner-Webb had the most players of any school named to the All-State teams. Appalachian State, Campbell, Charlotte, Elon, UNCW and Western Carolina also had athletes honored.
Shamleffer was a Second-Team All-Big South selection her senior year and scored in a 3-0 rout of Georgia Southern, while also contributing to four shutouts, including a 4-0 victory over Winthrop in the Big South quarterfinals.
DeLoach also earned Second-Team honors from the Big South and played 1,863 minutes on the back line. She tallied the most minutes among field players and trailed Brown (1,870) for the most minutes on the team. As a key member of the GWU defense, DeLoach helped the Runnin' Bulldogs complete four shutouts
Kleppe led Gardner-Webb with 11 goals and accumulated 28 points during her junior season. For her efforts, she was named a First-Team All-Big South selection. She had three consecutive conference matches with two goals. Kleppe converted four game-winning goals and had a .530 shots on goal percentage. She was second on the team in assists with six. Kleppe was a Second-Team NCCSIA All-State honoree as a sophomore.
Newton had a hot start to her first collegiate season, earning Player of the Week honors on August 24 after scoring in her first two matches as a Runnin' Bulldog. She joined Kleppe as the only other player to have more than 10 or more goals and was a Big South Conference Second-Team and All-Freshman selection.
Turlington was Gardner-Webb's assists leader with nine and also scored five goals. She ended the season with 19 points, trailing only Kleppe (28) and Newton (20). Her nine assists placed her second in the Big South. Only Nelia Perez (10) had more. Turlington had a pair of matches with two assists and also had a multi-goal match in a win against Radford. The Roanoke, Texas native was also named a Big South Conference All-Freshman selection.
Brown, Gardner-Webb's all-time saves and shutouts leader ended her career in Boiling Springs with 401 saves and 20 shutouts. She was a First-Team All-Big South Conference honoree. As a senior, she stopped 85 shots and recorded four clean sheets. Brown made a season-high 10 saves in a non-conference overtime draw against Marshall and had a save percentage of .794. Her goals against average of 1.06 was the best of her career.
Grove had the highest shots on goal percentage (min. 5) of any Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldog, with a .667 percentage. She capped off her four years in Boiling Springs with three goals and three assists as a senior. Grove assisted on both goals in a 2-1 Big South victory over Radford, which was the Highlanders' only conference loss of the 2018 season. She was also one of four Runnin' Bulldogs who earned Big South All-Conference honors.
