
Runnin’ Bulldogs Set To Compete at the 2018 Big South Indoor Track and Field Championships

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's and women's indoor track and field teams are prepared to take part in the 2018 Big South Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend.

The Runnin' Bulldogs posted 21 top-10 performances among Big South schools throughout the regular season.
Â
Jordan Smith had the best mark in both the men's shot put at 17.57 meters and the weight throw at 17.27 meters. Ross Lucia also ranked in the top-ten in both events with the ninth-best shot put distance at 13.40 meters and 16.15 meters in the weight throw, good enough for fourth.

GWU had four of the ten best marks throughout the season in the women's weight throw. Sarah Mitchell and Natasha Akbarizadeh tied for fourth at 17.27 meters, followed by Petra Jakeljic at 16.85 meters to rank sixth, and Cailen Blaire at 16.08 meters to rank ninth.

Mitchell also had the second-best women's shot put mark at 14.82 meters.

Carlos Williams had the sixth-best time in the men's 60-meter dash at 7.01 seconds.

Austin Evans ranked ninth in the 60-meter hurdles with a season-best result of 8.69 seconds.

Ashleigh Cleveland had three top-ten rankings, posting the eighth-best marks in both the women's high jump and long jump at 1.53 meters and 5.11 meters respectively. She also had the fifth-best point total in the pentathlon at 2,759.

Taylor Hotchkiss had two regular season-ending top-tens, ranking third in the women's long jump at 5.29 meters and seventh in the pentathlon with 2,663 points.

Two Runnin' Bulldogs ranked among the leaders in the women's pole vault at Karin Sastre had the fourth-best mark at 3.51 meters, followed by Sarah Coleman at 3.50 meters.

Chase Thornhill had a pair of top-tens, ranking seventh in the 200-meter run with a time of 22.06 seconds, and fifth in the 400-meter run at 50.05 seconds.

Amanda Hall had the eighth-best women's pentathlon point total at 2,282.

The 2018 Big South Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships will take place Friday, February 23 through Saturday, February 24 at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex on the campus of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.

Action begins at 10:00 am on Friday with the women's pentathlon events, with all action wrapping up late Saturday afternoon.
