
Weather Forecast Alters Women's Soccer Match Time at USC Upstate

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Due to forecasts of heavy rain in the Spartanburg, S.C. area, Gardner-Webb's women's soccer match at USC Upstate has been moved to a 2 p.m. start on Saturday, October 20.
The contest was originally slated to begin five hours later, but athletic officials from both schools are hopeful that the early kickoff will allow for the match to be played in full without any weather-related issues.
Gardner-Webb (6-9-1, 5-2 Big South) enters on a two-match winning streak, both of which were 2-0 victories in regulation. On October 13, the 'Dogs traveled to Clinton, S.C. and earned a win over the Presbyterian Blue Hose before returning home on Wednesday evening and defeating in-state rival UNC Asheville.
Sophomore goalkeeper Katelyn Kellogg earned the shoutout in both matches and made a combined 12 saves, including nine against the Bulldogs of UNCA. The Goshen, Ky. native has spent 577:47 in goal this season with seven starts. With two consecutive shoutouts, Kellogg lowered her goals against per game average from 2.26 to 1.56.
Offensively, Stina Kleppe has accounted for two of Gardner-Webb's last four goals with one in each of GWU's two previous matches. Maddie Turlington played a role in both goals in the win over UNC Asheville, assisting on Kleppe's goal that would be the eventual game winner before giving the 'Dogs an insurance goal with her score in the 80th minute.
USC Upstate (2-9-3, 0-7 Big South) is one of two winless teams in Big South play and is just 2-9-3 overall. After starting Big South play with a double overtime draw against Hampton, the Spartans have suffered seven consecutive defeats. USC Upstate last won on September 18 when it defeated the Wofford Terriers, 2-1.
Abbie Ellis leads the Spartans with four goals and two assists, while Montana Hill and Emma Honis have each scored three goals. Logan Pace has started 13-of-14 matches in goal for USC Upstate and has allowed 25 goals (1.92 per game) in 1171 minutes.
Following the match with USC Upstate, the Runnin' Bulldogs will travel to Radford on Wednesday, October 23 for a rematch of the 2018 Big South Conference tournament finals. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
