Schedule Change Announced For Gardner-Webb Women's Soccer
September 05, 2019 | Women's Soccer
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – With the threat of Hurricane Dorian looming over much of the southeast coast, Gardner-Webb will now host Coastal Carolina instead of The Citadel on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
The original plan was for the Runnin' Bulldogs to play host to The Citadel on Sunday, September 8 at 1 p.m., but due to the hurricane, The Citadel could not travel to Boiling Springs.
Coastal Carolina, which was scheduled to play Jacksonville at home on Friday has relocated to nearby Rock Hill, S.C. and will host Jacksonville on Friday on the campus of Winthrop University. Following a day off on Saturday, the Chanticleers will make the hour trek to Boiling Springs to battle the Runnin' Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon.
Coastal Carolina currently stands 0-4 overall and has been outscored 13-1. The Chanticleers' lone goal came in a 3-1 loss at UNC Wilmington on August 29. In goal, Coastal's Rylee Atteberry has earned the decision in all four matches and has allowed 11 goals while making 18 saves. Ky Hudson also spent 30 minutes in goal and allowed a pair of goals while stopping two shots.
Gardner-Webb is 0-3-1 overall and is led by the 2019 Big South Preseason Attacking Player of the Year Stina Kleppe. In an overtime defeat against Georgia Southern last week, Kleppe scored twice and recorded an assist as she played a role in all three GWU goals. In goal, both Paula Suarez Is and Katelyn Kellogg have earned starts. Kellogg started the most recent contest, a 1-1 draw against ETSU. Kellogg and Suarez Is have combined to make 22 saves through four matches.
