MEMPHIS, Tenn. –
Elizabeth Griffith collected a career-high 15 kills, propelling Gardner-Webb to a straight-set sweep of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the final matchup of the 2019 Tiger Brawl Saturday afternoon.
Gardner-Webb (1-5) earned its first win of the season by scores of 25-17, 25-19, and 25-21, totaling 32 kills on 97 swings for a .155 hitting percentage. Arkansas-Pine Bluff (0-6) collected 23 kills on 94 attempts, attacking at a .032 rate.
Griffith led all attackers with 15 kills on 34 swings for a .235 hitting percentage. The junior also had one block and a pair of digs, earning All-Tournament team honors.
Lauryn Rocassin provided a match-high 22 assists, while
Charissa Coleman led the 'Dogs with 10 digs and
Alexandria Roycraft,
Hannah Donaldson, and
Delaney McCullough each had a team-best four total blocks.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff was led in kills by Zyaire Garrit with six, and assists by Elyssa Kennedy with 17.
Kaila Robinson totaled a match-high 13 digs, while Darynne Bickers led all blockers with five total blocks.
Gardner-Webb returns to action on Friday, September 13, taking on Alabama A&M at 1:00 pm to open the Wofford Invitational. The Runnin' Bulldogs will also take on North Carolina A&T at 4:00 pm Friday afternoon, and will square off against tournament host Wofford at 11:30 am Saturday, September 14.
