Mike Varga Named NCYSA Brantley-Murphy Award Winner For 2020

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Gardner-Webb head women's soccer coach Mike Varga was recently honored as the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association's Brantley-Murphy Award recipient for 2020.
The award was presented at the NCYSA Awards Luncheon in Hickory, N.C., and is named for two former North Carolina Youth Soccer Association administrators who improved the game of soccer throughout the Old North State. The award is presented each year to a person who has made a major impact on the state's ODP program.
"Honestly, I was surprised when I received word of being the recipient of the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association's Brantley-Murphy Award," said Varga. "There are so many wonderful, deserving youth coaches in the state of North Carolina who make receiving this award such an honor. I enjoy every moment of working with the North Carolina Olympic Development Program and consider myself fortunate to be able to be a part of the program.
"A big thank you goes out to the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association for this incredible honor."
In addition to his duties as head coach at Gardner-Webb, Varga serves as Director of Coaching for Classic/Challenge for the Greater Cleveland County Soccer Association.
Varga has led Gardner-Webb women's soccer to 14 Big South Conference wins over the past two seasons (14-4-2) in addition to consecutive appearances in the league title match in Matthews, N.C.
During his collegiate coaching career, which also includes stops at Lincoln Memorial and South Alabama, Varga has combined to win 235 matches.
