Track & Field Has Strong Showing At Appalachian Open To Start Indoor Season

BOONE, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb track and field team took a trip up to the High Country to open their season at the Appalachian Open, with events taking place on Friday and Saturday at the Holmes Convocation Center.
In the women's weight throw, Jaden Finch placed second by hitting a mark of 16.31 meters, which is a personal best and a new top-7 all-time program record. Taliyah Wayde placed sixth by hitting a mark of 14.51 meters and teammate Karemen Taylor placed seventh by hitting a mark of 13.70 meters.
As for the men's weight throw, Joshua Fisher claimed first-place for the Runnin' Bulldogs by hitting a mark of 18.51 meters, which is a personal best for him. Nate Wonesly placed sixth overall with a mark of 13.96 meters.
Jaden Finch took a big first-place finish for the 'Dogs in the women's shot put by hitting a mark of 13.29 meters, which is a new fourth-best program record. Taliyah Wade took fifth place by hitting a mark of 11.90 meters.
In the men's shot put, Julian Smallwood placed second by hitting a mark of 16.84 meters, which is a new top fourth best program mark. Joshua Fischer Placed fourth by hitting a mark of 15.07 meters, Nate Wonsley took sixth with a mark of 13.50 meters and Cameron Donoghue placed seventh with a mark of 12.44 meters.
Ryan McGuffin claimed first-place in the men's long jump, as he hit a mark of 6.69 meters for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
In the women's pole vault, Saylor Abbott and Sophia Smith finished in a five way tie for fifth-place by hitting a mark of 3.21 meters.
As for the men's pole vault, Cameron Donoghue finished in fifth by hitting a mark of 3.98 meters. Donoghue also finished fifth in the men's 55 meter hurdles with a mark of 8.23 meters.
Hannah Mitchell finished third in the women's one mile run, as she crossed the finish line with a time of 5:26.38.
Patrick Sastre took first for the 'Dogs in the men's one mile run, crossing the finish line with a time of 4:29.17.
In the women's 3,000 meter run, Amy Prugh took a big first-place win for the Runnin' Bulldogs, clocking a time of 10:55.13 at the finish.
As for the men's 3,000 meter run, Ryan Mortia took fourth with a time of 9:22.08 at the finish.
In the women's 4x300 meter relay, the squad of Amira Austin, Alena Ivanov, Kendall Reece, and Brianna Payne took fourth with a time of 2:50.94.
As for the men's 4x300 meter relay, the squad of Sean Armour, James Hinton, Jesse Pittman, and Chase Thornhill took third with a time of 2:24.43 at the finish.
The 'Dogs will be back in action on Thursday, January 20th at the Brant Tolsma Invitiational in Lynchburg Virgina.
