Track and Field Open Outdoor Season at Spring Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Gardner-Webb Track and Field competed in the Winthrop Spring Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
In the men's 2,000 meter steeple, Matthew Cloninger placed fourth with a time of 7:07.21.
Taylor Hotchkiss placed third in the women's 100 meter hurdles for the Runnin' Bulldogs with a time of 16.23 seconds.
For the men's 400 meters, Kaleb Hewitt placed fourth with a time of 50.66 seconds.
Amira Austin took home the gold for Gardner-Webb in the women's 400 meters with a time of 1:00.10 at the finish. Kelsey Houser placed third with a time of 1:01.83.
As for the men's 100 meters, Xzavier Lambert placed seventh with a time of 11.19 seconds.
Patrick Sastre placed second for the Dogs' in the men's 1,000 meters with a time of 2:33.10.
In the women's 1,000 meters, Hannah Mitchell took home second place with a time of 3:03.71, and teammate Faith Parandhamaia placed fifth with a time of 3:13.41.
Austin Buzzard placed fourth in the men's 400 meter hurdles with a time of 59.02.
Khalilah Conway placed first in the women's 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.29 at the finish.
As for the men's 200 meters, Chase Thornhill placed second with a time of 21.87 for Gardner-Webb.
In the men's 3,000 meters, Ethan Bentley placed fifth with a time of 9:26.21 for GWU.
Amy Prugh placed fourth for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the women's 3,000 meters going a time of 10:33.41 at the finish.
The men's 4 X 400 meter relay came in first place with a time of 3:22.27, beating out UNC-Asheville by margin of just two seconds.
Gardner-Webb also took first in the women's 4 X 400 meter relay with a time of 4:05.94, also beating out UNC-Asheville by a two second gap to win.
Louise Schmidtgen placed first for GWU in the women's pole vault by hitting a mark of 3.49 meters, teammate Skyela Amsberry placed fifth by hitting a mark of 2.89 meters.
Khalilah Conway took home first place in the women's high jump by hitting a mark of 1.57 meters.
In the women's long jump Taylor Hotchkiss placed sixth for Gardner-Webb by hitting a mark of 4.88 meters.
Ryan McGuffin took second in the men's long jump by hitting a mark of 6.63 meters, and Lorranger Russell followed in third with a mark of 6.62 meters.
As for the men's triple jump, Austin Evans placed second by hitting a mark of 13.77 meters.
Jaden Finch took home the gold for Gardner-Webb in the women's shot put by hitting a mark of 12.41 meters, and Taliyah Wade placed second by hitting a mark of 11.57 meters. Karmen Taylor followed in fourth-place by hitting a mark of 10.94 meters.
Julian Smallwood took home first place in the men's shot put by hitting a mark of 17.28 meters, which is new program record as well. Nate Wonsley followed in third-place by hitting a mark if 15.24 meters, and Josh Fischer placed fourth by hitting a mark of 15.08 meters.
In in the women's discus event, Jaden Finch placed first by hitting a mark of 42.99 meters. Karmen Taylor took third by hitting a mark of 37.14 meters, and Taliyah Wade placed fourth hitting a mark of 32.55 meters.
As for the men's discus, Julian Smallwood placed second by hitting a mark of 40.99 meters. Josh Fischer followed in fourth by hitting a mark of 40.30 meters.
Ashlyn Green placed first for the Dogs' in the women's hammer by hitting a mark of 48.09 meters, Karmen Taylor followed in second by hitting a mark of 47.90 meters, and Jaden Finch took third with a mark of 47.86 meters.
In the men's hammer, Kenny Vanvorst placed first by hitting a mark of 58.31 meters. Josh Fischer placed third by hitting a mark of 54.60 meters, and Nate Wonsley placed fourth by hitting a mark of 42.89 meters.
Callie Rhea took home the gold in the women's javelin by hitting a mark of 32.50 meters.
Gardner-Webb Track and Field will be back in action on March 26 & 27 at the Winthrop Invitational.
