Three Runnin’ Bulldogs Qualify For NCAA East Prelims

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Three Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs have been announced as qualifiers for the 2021 Division I Men's Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary. Gardner-Webb will travel to Jacksonville, FL. to compete in the East Preliminary which is set to take place from May 26-29th.
The three Runnin' Bulldogs that will participate in the East Preliminary are Julian Smallwood, Chase Thornhill, and Kenny VanVorst.
Julian Smallwood will compete in the shot put at the East Prelim. The Redshirt Senior from Buffalo, N.Y. most recently took silver in the shot put at the 2021 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championship. At the Big South Championship, Smallwood hit a mark of 17.65 meters which was a personal best for him and a new top mark on the all time top 10 program history list.

Chase Thornhill will compete in the 400 meter dash at the East Prelim. The Senior from Perry Hall, MD. recently claimed bronze in the 400 meter dash at the 2021 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championship by clocking in a time of 47.91 seconds at the finish line.

Kenny Vanvorst will compete in the hammer at the East Prelim. The Redshirt Senior from Harrington, Del. most recently claimed gold for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the hammer at the 2021 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championship by hitting a mark of 60.23 meters.

The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary takes place May 26-29 at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, FL which is located on the campus of the University of North Florida.
