Gardner-Webb Women’s Soccer Ranked 5th in 2021 Big South Preseason Poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb's Women's Soccer program was picked to finish fifth in the 2021 Big South Conference Preseason poll, which is voted on by the conference's head coaches.
The Lady Runnin' Bulldogs earned a total of 73 points in the poll, with the highest of votes being one third place, and five fourth and fifth place votes respectively.
This year, High Point (118 points, eight first-place votes) was selected as the preseason favorite, as they are the reigning 2021 Spring Big South regular-season champions. The only other team to receive over 100 points in the poll was Campbell, as they ranked second with 111 points and 2 first-place votes.
Head Coach Mike Varga and his squad look to open the first home game of the regular season on Sunday, August 22nd at Greene-Harbison Stadium as the Lady Runnin' Bulldogs will face off against The Citadel.
The 2021 Big South women's soccer season begins Thursday, Aug. 19, while Conference play opens Saturday, Sept. 18. The 2021 Big South Women's Soccer Championship tournament is slated for Oct. 30-Nov. 7, and will be contested at the home sites of the highest seeds throughout. The six-team postseason event will open with two quarterfinal matches the weekend of Oct. 30-31, followed by the Semifinals (Nov. 4) and Finals (Nov. 7), with the champion receiving the Big South's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
