NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After a perfect day against Charleston Southern, kicker
Jay Billingsley was named Big South-OVC Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season, announced by the conference on Monday, Nov. 20.
Billingsley opened the scoring in Gardner-Webb's 34-10 win over Charleston Southern on Saturday, Nov. 18, nailing a 48-yard field goal to give the Runnin' Bulldogs an early 3-0 lead. That 48-yarder ties a career long for the Anderson, S.C. native. Billingsley also connected on a 22-yard field goal later in the first quarter to put GWU up 6-0.
Billingsley was also a perfect 4-for-4 on extra point attempts. Billingsley has yet to miss an extra point this season, as he is 40-for-40 on the year.
This is the second time this season and in his career that Billingsley has been named Big South-OVC Special Teams Player of the Week. Billingsley earned the honor on Sept. 11 after going 2-for-2 on field goals and 4-for-4 on extra points against Elon in Gardner-Webb's 34-27 win over the Phoenix on Saturday, Sept. 9.
Gardner-Webb now prepares for the postseason, traveling to Macon, Ga. To face #17 Mercer in the first round of the FCS Playoffs. Kickoff is set for 3:00 P.M.
