Runnin' Bulldogs Drop 7-0 Road Game At Campbell Saturday Night
May 13, 2023 | Baseball
BUIES CREEK, N.C. – No. 13 Campbell scored seven runs in its final three innings Saturday night to pull away for a 7-0 win over Gardner-Webb in the second game of a Big South Conference baseball series.
Gardner-Webb (27-22, 12-11 Big South) got a strong pitching effort from starter Tyler Switalski, who kept the Camels off the board through 5.1 innings, until a two-run single put the home team on top in the sixth.
Campbell scored its final five runs against the Gardner-Webb bullpen, using a four-run seventh to put the game out of reach. Another run in the bottom of the eighth accounted for the final margin.
Gardner-Webb had a runner in scoring position in the top of the second after Nate Anderson singled and stole second – and again in the top of the sixth after a Jacob Marcos single and stolen base. Campbell pitching worked around both of those threats, setting up the late push.
Switalski (7-5) took the loss, despite allowing just two runs on four hits. The sophomore struck out five and walked three.
Anderson (1-for-3), Marcos (1-for-4), Humberto Torres (1-for-3), Curtis Robison (1-for-4) and Mark Black (1-for-4) each had one of Gardner-Webb's five hits.
Campbell collected six of its 10 hits in the final two innings. Logan Harrill hit two home runs to lead the Camels' offense. Aaron Rund (4-1) came out of the bullpen to pitch 3.1 innings for the win.
The two teams will square off on Sunday afternoon to wrap up the three-game set.
