Women's Soccer Announces Signing Of Four Players

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Women's Soccer announced four new signees for the upcoming class.
 
A goalkeeper from Parkland, Florida, Andrea Stampone. Stampone was a 2021 Florida Class 4-A State Champion and 2020 Runner Up. She was 2021 All-Broward County Honorable Mention, and 2022 First-Team. 4-year varsity letter goalkeeper also attended the 2022 GAL SE Talent ID Camp. She was honor roll all four years of high school, 2022 Pinnacle Award recipient, National English Honors Society President, National Social Studies Officer, and plans to study Political Science at Gardner-Webb. She graduated from Cardinal Gibbins High School with a 5.0 GPA.
 
"I look forward to Andrea not only making an impact on our soccer team but on the GWU campus," said head coach Mike Varga. "Andrea is an impressive young lady and a gifted athlete.  Andrea has a presence in goal and is a terrific shot stopper."
 
A midfielder from Newfield, New Jersey, Summer Rusciano. Rusciano was a 4-year letter and 2-time captain. She was a freshman year division champ and helped lead her team to the Cape Atlantic League Conference Championship and NJSIAA Tournament Quarterfinal. She led the team in assists and set the school record for most assists in a single game on her way to winning the Coaches MVP Award. Her junior year, she led her team to the Quarterfinal of the NJIAA South Jersey Tournament. Her senior year, at IMG Academy, was a 2022 Florida State Cup Champion, a 2022 Tampa Bay Super Cup Champion, and 2023 IMG Cup Champion. Prior to IMG Academy, she played club for Match Fit Academy ECNL and carded a year up with the 2004 NL PRO Club team. She also participated with the NJ ODP Regional Team and was selected to play for the National Center of Excellence, a multi-state soccer program for advanced players.
 
"Summer came to IMG her senior year with a very strong work ethic, she immediately connected with her teammates and found a niche on the team. She is talented with the ball and is one of the most technical players that I have coached throughout my career," said head coach Ray Leone. "Summer is very coachable and willing to do whatever it takes to succeed," he added.
 
Here's what Coach Varga had to say about Rusciano: "Summer has the technical ability to be a very successful player for us.  She comes from an excellent training environment in IMG and her transition to Division 1 soccer should be seamless."
 
A goalkeeper from Merseyside, England, Jamie Martin. Martin won player of the year for 2019-2020. She posted 12 clean sheets in 16 games in the 2021-2022 season. She has won four Woman of the Match awards so far this season and was named Merseyside Sportsperson of the year in 2020. Martin was also the youngest ever starter for Tranmere Rovers Women. She played club for Liverpool Feds Women where her coach said the following about her:
 
"Jaimie continues to dedicate her time and attention to improving as a Goalkeeper and I've enjoyed watching her growth as she's progressed in the game. She's a brave and fearless goalkeeper and having spent so long in the US myself I know how much she'll impress on people there," said Marc Joyce.

"Jaimie has all the tools to be one of the top goalkeepers in the Big South Conference," said Varga. "She is fearless and has an exceptional understanding of the game. Jaimie adds to a goalkeeper group that will push each other to be better each and every day and I look forward to watching her continue to grow and develop as a goalkeeper."
 
A midfielder from Stockholm, Sweden, Captain Award-winner Julia Coval. Her club took gold in the Swedish National Tournament and she was tabbed Idrottsskölden. Thomas Backman, Coval's school Coach had this to say about the midfielder:
 
"Julia is an ambitious player that has a fantastic vision for the game. The decision making on the pitch is top class, and that along with her functional technical abilities makes her a player that stands out in most games."
 
"Julia brings a lot of experience to our midfield," said Varga. "She has played at a high level in Sweden and has had success facing some of the top clubs in the country. She has incredible vision and will help us maintain our tempo through our midfield."
