CLINTON, S.C. – Sophomore running back Carson Gresock ran for a career-high 134 yards to go along with three scores while leading the Gardner-Webb football team to a convincing 42-21 win at Presbyterian on Saturday night at Bailey Memorial Stadium.
 
Senior running back Quasean Holmes also produced a huge game on the ground for the 'Dawgs, totaling 132 yards and two scores. As a team, GWU compiled a season-high 485 yards of total offense.
 
After forcing the Blue Hose to a three-and-out on their first series, Gardner-Webb wasted no time creating separation, covering 75 yards on 10 plays before Gresock plunged across the goal line from two yards out for his first of three on the night.
 
That advantage quickly doubled as the Runnin' Bulldogs took over possession with 14:53 on the second quarter clock. Senior quarterback Tyler Riddell used his arm and legs to get the visitors in prime position for another score just before Holmes picked up the final six yards of the drive while giving GWU a 14-0 lead.
 
Presbyterian continued to struggle offensively, giving the ball back to the Runnin' Bulldogs after four snaps. The quick-strike affair came into play on the next series as Holmes caught the outside corner and raced 51 yards for his second consecutive score, pushing the lead out to 21-0.
 
However, the Blue Hose began to gain some traction as they were able to put together back-to-back scoring drives while trimming the Runnin' Bulldogs halftime lead to 21-14.
 
Following a scoreless third quarter by each side, Gardner-Webb padded its lead with a 14-play, 80-yard drive that spanned more than seven minutes. Riddell found a wide open Giovanni Adopte in the back of the end zone for the fourth score of the night for the Black and Red.
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs followed that up with another lengthy drive on its next possession, racking up 93 yards on 13 plays while chewing up 6:13 on the game clock to reclaim a 21-point lead at 35-21.
 
Presbyterian came back with a drive of its own that lasted just under a minute as it took the Blue Hose only four plays to cover 75 yards.
 
However, the 'Dawgs could not be slowed down as they were presented a short field following an unsuccessful onside kick by PC. Gresock carried the entire workload on the possession, tallying all 26 yards on his way to a rushing hat trick after plunging into the end zone from four yards out, pushing the final score to 42-21 in favor of the Runnin' Bulldogs.
 
The win marks the first for head coach Cris Resiert since taking over the Gardner-Webb program this season.
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs will return to the friendly confines of Spangler Stadium on Saturday, September 28, playing host to Tennessee Tech in Big South Conference action. Kickoff for that contest is set for 4 p.m.
