Peterson Set to Become First Gardner-Webb Athlete to Compete in Shot Put at NCAA Indoor Nationals

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - After his record-breaking performance at the 2026 Big South Indoor Championships, senior Quentin Peterson of the Gardner-Webb track and field team has been selected to take part in the upcoming 2026 NCAA Division I Indoor National Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas
At last weekend's conference championship meet, Peterson added to an already impressive individual resume. En route to taking home the Men's Most Outstanding Performance Award, Peterson won both the men's shot put and men's weight throw each for the second consecutive year. In shot put, Peterson re-wrote the Gardner-Webb and Big South record books with a program, conference and event all-time best mark of 20.10 meters. At the time of the event, Peterson had the third-best mark nationally across NCAA Division I for the season, and as of writing, his performance remains inside the top five. The McDonough, Ga. native also won men's weight throw with an equally-impressive mark of 20.00 meters flat
Peterson will compete in men's shot put at the 2026 NCAA Division I Indoor National Championships on March 14th at 1 pm. He is the first athlete from Gardner-Webb to qualify for Indoor Nationals since 2014, and the first Gardner-Webb athlete to ever qualify in the men's shot put event

"Even more this accomplishment is who Quentin is, he's a man with incredible humility and kindness. Quentin is a very special young man, he truly puts others first and displays his faith in his actions toward others. We cannot wait to see what the Lord has planned for him next week"
