Boyd, Peterson and Powell to Represent Gardner-Webb at 2026 NCAA East Regional Championships

LEXINGTON, KY - After an incredible 2026 outdoor season, the Gardner-Webb track and field team is set to send a trio of athletes to the 2026 NCAA East Regional Championships, with hopes of punching a trip to the upcoming National Championships in June
Appearing at her first NCAA East Regional Championships, Paige Boyd will take part in the women's high jump event. Boyd posted a remarkable 2026 season and an even more impressive Big South Outdoor Championship meet to qualify for regionals. her mark of 1.74 meters at the conference meet was enough to crown her a Big South Champion for the first time, and place her No. 3 all-time in the GWU record books
Quentin Peterson returns to the NCAA East Regional Championships following another outstanding individual season. After receiving Second Team All-American honors during indoor season and competing at the National Championships, Peterson followed it up by winning two more Big South titles at the 2026 conference outdoor meet. Peterson won shot put with a school record 19.60 meters, and discus throw with a mark of 55.68 meters, once again sweeping through the Big South
Joshua Powell will appear at his first NCAA East Regional Championships, following his second place finish in men's long jump. Powell posted one of the best marks in school history at the 2026 Big South Outdoor Championships, recording 7.48 meters. Earlier this season, Powell put the region and nation on notice in the Big South-SoCon Challenge, finishing first in the long jump with a personal-best distance of 7.70m. That mark, which was the top performance in the Big South at the time, also ranks as the sixth-best all-time in the Big South Conference history and best mark in program history
Powell will take part in long jump at 6:00 pm on May 27th, Peterson will compete in shot put at 6:30 on the same day, while Boyd's high jump events are scheduled for Friday and Saturday
