Gardner-Webb Falls Short On the Road vs Georgia State

ATLANTA, GA- The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team traveled to Atlanta, GA on Sunday evening to take on the Georgia State but fell just short by a score of 2-0. The game kicked off at 6 p.m. with temperatures right at 90 degrees at the beginning of the game.
The Runnin' Bulldogs battled throughout the contest but were unable to find the back of the net. Georgia State scored twice late in the second half. They opened the scoring in the 65th minute when Sunniyah Tucker found the back of the net. In the 74th minute Tucker would provide the assist to Brielle Delgado to extend the lead to 2-0. Gardner-Webb would continue to battle and produce opportunities around the net but Georgia State goalkeepr, Alondra Iriarte would keep Gardner-Webb scoreless. Despite the two goals conceded Abril Montiel would register six saves on the night and continue her solid 2026 campaign.
The Runnin' Bulldogs offense produced 11 shots on the evening with five of those shots being on target. Peyton O' Linn led the offensive attack producing three shots with one on goal. Zoe Marque, Julia McBride,and Eleni Lagusis all produced two shots, while freshman Morgan Dewitt added two shots and one on target to the teams total.
The Runnin' Bulldogs continued to pressure Georgia State but Iriarte made saves on shots late in the game to keep the clean sheet for the Panthers.
Despite the loss Gardner-Webb will look to Wednesday where they will return to Boiling Springs to take on the Jacksonville State Gamecocks at 2 p.m. at Greene Harbison Stadium.
