Runnin’ Bulldogs Cap Strong Weekend With Victory over SIUE

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — The Gardner-Webb volleyball team made history thanks to a 3-1 victory over SIUE Saturday at Austin Peay's Winfield Dunn Center as part at the Governors Classic.
With the victory, Gardner-Webb improves to 9-4 on the season, which marks the best start in program history since moving up to Division I in 2000.
The Runnin' Bulldogs dropped the first set 25-21 before rallying to win the next three sets (25-23, 25-18, 26-24).
Gardner-Webb took control in the third set, hitting .270 with 14 kills and just four errors. The Runnin' Bulldogs pulled away late to claim the frame, 25-18, and take a 2-1 lead.
The fourth set featured another back-and-forth battle, with neither team able to create much separation. Gardner-Webb ultimately prevailed in extra points, 26-24, to close out the four-set victory.
Peyton Slone paced the Runnin' Bulldogs offensively with 15 kills, while Sarina Galyean recorded 13 and Samia Sayd added 11. Olivia Lefebvre distributed 23 assists, while Aleina Manaois added 15 assists and finished with a team-high 13 digs.
Manaois also led Gardner-Webb with four service aces, while Kiera Vazquez and Ella Moss each added two. Vazquez contributed 11 digs, and Moss recorded 10 as the Bulldogs finished with 70 digs as a team.
Gardner-Webb finished the match with 55 kills compared to 48 for SIUE and held a 9-6 advantage in service aces. The Bulldogs also limited the Cougars to a .143 hitting percentage for the match.
Gardner-Webb returns home to face Wofford at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Paul Porter Arena in the final match before the start of Big South Conference play next weekend.
