Demario Deese Named To 2008 AFCA FCS All-America Team
December 22, 2008 | Football
WACO, Texas Gardner-Webb senior offensive lineman Demario
Deese was named to the AFCA Division I FCS All-America Team
following another strong campaign in 2008.
Deese is the third Gardner-Webb standout ever honored by the AFCA
(American Football Coaches Association) as an All-America
performer, joining defensive end Harold Wells (2004) and defensive
end Brian Johnston (2007).
The 6-foot-4, 305-pound tackle started all 11 games for
Gardner-Webb in 2008, and made 41 starts in his career in Boiling
Springs.
A native of Charlotte, N.C. (Independence HS), Deese graded out as
one of the team's top blockers all season, helping Gardner-Webb
average 393.3 yards of total offense and rank in the nation's
top-20 in passing offense through 11 games. Deese became the first
player at any position to earn first-team All-Big South Conference
honors four times in his career, doing so in 2005, 2006, 2007 and
2008.
Deese is just the fifth offensive lineman in Gardner-Webb history
to earn All-America honors, and the first since former teammate
Kris King was named honorable mention All-America by the Football
Gazette in 2006.
The AFCA names a 25-man All-America team for Division I FCS
(formerly I-AA) each season. The team consists of an 11-man
offensive unit, an 11-man defensive unit and three special teams
members.
