Runnin' Bulldogs Drop Sunday Contest to App State, 2-Nil

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team dropped its Sunday contest at home to Appalachian State on Sunday evening by a final score of 2-nil
The Runnin' Bulldogs started slow on Sunday evening and never recovered in a 2-nil loss. GWU was out-shot 16-2 in the first half and 28-4 for the game. The Mountaineers broke through in the 31st and 40th minutes, scoring off two set pieces just 10 minutes apart, both goals via headers in the box.
The best chances for the Runnin' Bulldogs both came from Zoë Marqué just seconds apart. Marqué put one shot out to the left in the 22nd minute, then saw an effort saved in the center of the goal in the 24th minute.
Freshman goalkeeper Abril Montiel was the star of the evening for GWU. The freshman from Tijuana, Mexico had perhaps the best game of her young career, making six saves to keep the Runnin' Bulldogs in the contest for large portions
For the Dawgs, Marqué led with two shots and one on goal while Noor Reslan and Andrei Kaithlyn Chavez each also added a shot in the 90 minute game
