Hall Named Big South Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week
October 19, 2009 | Football
CHARLOTTE - Junior running back Patrick Hall put the Runnin'
Bulldogs on his shoulders Saturday in a 27-20 win, and was honored
as Choice Hotels Big South Conference Co-Offensive Player of the
Week on Monday by the league office.
Hall (Gastonia, N.C. / Ashbrook HS) scored the game-winning
touchdown on a 16-yard dash with just 22 seconds remaining
Saturday, giving Gardner-Webb (4-2, 2-0 Big South) its second
league victory in as many tries - and keeping the 'Dogs undefeated
against Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) teams in 2009.
The 5-foot-11, 220-pound back finished his day with a career-high
118 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries, scoring two of those
touchdowns in a decisive fourth quarter. He bulled into the end
zone from two yards out to cap Gardner-Webb's initial drive of the
game for a 7-0 lead, then broke a 13-13 tie early in the fourth
quarter by dashing 21 yards to paydirt.
Hall kick-started Gardner-Webb's winning drive with a key, 12-yard
reception and finished with a career-best 130 all-purpose
yards.
The performance came in relief of injured leading rusher Philip
Peoples, and his production should not come as a surprise. In three
career games against Charleston Southern, Hall has now carried 45
times for 296 yards and four touchdowns - including a pair of
100-yard games at Norman Harris Field at Spangler Stadium.
This season, Hall leads the Big South Conference with seven rushing
touchdowns, and is tied with Cleveland County native Chris Poston
for sixth on the Gardner-Webb career rushing touchdowns list with
17. Hall moved past Peoples for team-high rushing honors this
season, and has 281 yards on 48 carries (5.9 yards per rush). Hall
has run for 900 yards during his career in Boiling Springs.
Hall shared the Big South's weekly honor with Stony Brook
quarterback Michael Coulter, who passed for 316 yards and two
touchdowns in the Sea Wolves 27-20 win at VMI Saturday.
Gardner-Webb plays host to Southern Virginia on Saturday, October
24, at 6:00 pm.
