
Runnin' Bulldogs Fall at Clemson

CLEMSON,S.C.--- The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team fell on the road at Clemson on Thursday night by a score of 5-1. The Runnin' Bulldogs battled throughout the contest but fell to an early deficit after Clemson scored four times during the first 45 minutes. Gardner-Webb goalkeeper Abril Montiel was called upon frequently throughout the match making 13 saves.
Clemson opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Anna Castenfelt found the back of the net. Castenfelt would score her second goal in the 19th minute to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage. Jenna Tobia scored in the 35t minute giving Clemson its third goal before Taylor Leib scored in the 42nd minute sending Gardner-Webb into halftime trailing 4-0.
The Runnin' Bulldogs came out of the halftime break looking to cut into the Tigers lead and did so in the 51st minute when Julia McBride found the back of the net to put Gardner-Webb on the scoreboard and make it a 4-1 contest.
Clemson responded in the 60th minute when Natalie Brooks scored to extend the lead to 5-1.
Gardner-Webb continued to compete through the final whistle but the Runnin' Bulldogs were unable to find another goal.
Montiel finished the match with 13 saves for Gardner-Webb while the Runnin' Bulldogs recorded one shot on the night. Clemson finished with 22 shots including 15 shots on goal.
The Tigers also held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
