
GWU's Allum Tied For First After Round One at the Ontario Women's Amateur Championship

Ontario, Canada - Gardner-Webb rising junior Meghan Allum carded a first round 68, -3 under par, on Tuesday, July 5th, to place herself in a tie for first-place overall after round one at the Investors Group Ontario Women's Amateur Championship hosted by Cutten Fields in Guelph, Ontario, Canada.
Allum, who finds herself in a tie with Augusta James, carded a course record-breaking 68 to place in a tie with James at first in one stroke ahead of two other players.
The Markham, Ontario native, posted four birdies against a single bogey in her opening round. The Runnin' Bulldog lady golfer sunk a birdie putt on the par-4 fifth hole, added a second on number eight, then delivered back-to-back birdies on the holes 13 and 14.
Second round action is set to get under way at 7:30 am on Wednesday, with the 120 player field cut to the low 54 scores and ties at the conclusion of 36 holes.
The final round will take place on Thursday with the 2011 Investors Group Ontario Women's Amateur champion set to be crowned Thursday afternoon.
The gates at Cutten Fields are open to spectators throughout the 54-hole event during the Club's 80th anniversary celebrations.
First contested in 1904, The Investors Group Ontario Women's Amateur Championship is being played for the 96th time this summer. Open to female golfers with a valid GAO handicap of 12.0 or less, the event features Ontario's best amateur golfers competing in 54-holes of stroke-play competition. Notable past champions include 1968 LPGA Championship winner Sandra Post (1964), LPGA player Alena Sharp (1989), Canadian Golf Hall of Fame member Mary Ann Hayward ('83, '90, '95-'97) and Marlene Stewart Streit, who holds the record for the most Ontario Women's Amateur Championships with 11 ('51, '56, '57, '58, '68, '69, '70, '72, '74, '76, '77).
