
Week Ten Notes: GWU Wraps Up Its 2013 Regular Season Slate with Home Contests Versus Winthrop and High Point

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team will wrap up its 2013 regular season slate this week, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will host both Winthrop and High Point in two key Big South matches over the final two weeks of play.
Gardner-Webb will host the Winthrop Eagles on Wednesday night, October 30th, at 7 p.m., before playing its final regular season match of the year on Saturday night, November 2nd, versus the High Point Panthers at 7 p.m. at Greene-Harbison Field.
GWU extended its current winning streak to four straight matches with back-to-back shutouts over UNC Asheville and Campbell in Big South Conference play last week and improved to 8-6-1 overall and 5-3-0 in League play with the two wins.
GWU's Ali Al-Gashamy was named the Big South Choice Hotels Men's Soccer Attacking Player of the Week and also earned a spot on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week for his efforts last week in which he scored two goals, posted two assists and totaled six points over GWU's two conference wins. Al-Gashamy has scored one goal in each of the Runnin' Bulldogs' last four matches, all of which have been Big South Conference wins.
Freshman goalkeeper Matthew Swan, who increased his season total to four shutouts on the season with his two shutouts over UNC Asheville and Campbell last week, was named the Big South Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 28th. He made seven saves on 23 shots in the two GWU shutout wins.
Despite not registering a goal in GWU's last match, a 2-0 win at Campbell, Clarke has still scored 10 goals over the Runnin' Bulldogs' last seven matches, including two hat tricks. Clarke's hat trick against UNC Asheville last Wednesday night was his third hat trick of the season, the most by a single player in one season in GWU's Division I history.
Clarke leads the nation in total goals (15) and in goals per game (1.00). He also ranks second in the nation in points per game (2.07) and in total points (31).
The Winthrop Eagles enter play this week at 9-5-1 overall and 3-4-0 in the Big South.
Winthrop, who will be playing its final road match of the regular season at GWU on Wednesday night, has won two of its last three matches and is 5-2-1 overall on the year in true road contests.
The Eagles, who have outscored its foes 34-18 overall on the season, has seven different players who have accounted for at least one goal on the season led by Achille Obougou's nine goals and Max Hasenstab's seven goals and five assists.
The High Point Panthers, who will host Campbell on Wednesday night, October 30th, at 7 p.m., enters action this week at 4-7-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the Big South.
After posting a 2-0 win over Navy on September 14th, the Panthers have gone 2-4-3 overall with the wins coming over Liberty and at UNC Asheville.
High Point, who is 2-2-3 overall on the road this season, is led by Mamadee Nyepon's team-high 10 goals and Austin Yearwood's team-best six assists.
