
Gardner-Webb Swimming Competes At UMBC Quad Meet

BALTIMORE, Md.- The Gardner-Webb men's swim team compiled a record of 2-1, while the women's team had a record of 1-1 at the University of Maryland Baltimore Country Quad Meet contested on Saturday and Sunday.
The Gardner-Webb men's and women's swim teams put together strong performances over the two-day meet, as the men defeated the Virginia Military Institute (131-114) and the New Jersey Institute of Technology (150-123) with its only defeat of the week coming at the hands of UMBC (131-114), while the GWU women's team defeated VMI (141-126) but fell to UMBC (118.50-97).
Nathan Lile had an impressive weekend for the Runnin' Bulldogs, as he totaled four first place finishes and three second place finishes in his seven events.
Lile finished first in three individual events, the 100 back (52.00), 200 IM (1:53.18), and the 200 back (1:52.57) and as well as the 200 medley relay (1:35.38), where he swam the freestyle (anchor) leg (1:35.38). Lile's second place finishes came in the 200 free (1:43.47), 400 medley relay (1:35.38), and the 400 free relay (3:09.69).
Luke Denman put together strong swims in the two distance events, the 500 (4:44.14) and the 1,000 (9:45.62) free, as he took second in both events.
In the two-day quad meet for the GWU women's team, Giorgie Graves looked impressive in her events, as she took home three first place finishes, and finished second in two events. Graves' first place finishes came in the the 100 fly (57.90) and the 200 (1:38.19) and 400 (3:33.7) free relays, and her second place finishes were in the 100 free (53.63) and the 400 medley relay (3:59.18).
In just her second collegiate event, Lili Tóth swam extremely well for the Runnin' Bulldogs as she finished second in the 200 IM (2:09.23), 200 free (1:55.70), and was part of the 400 medley relay. Toth also took third in the 100 (1:06.91) and 200 (2:24.55) breaststroke.
Charity Byrum showed her senior leadership during the weekend as she swam in the 200 medley and 400 free relays that each finished in first place and placed second in both the 100 (1:05.55) and 200 breast (2:22.78).
Gardner-Webb continues its three-day roadtrip when it competes at the Georgetown University Dual Meet tommorow (Oct. 20) before hitting the road again with the men's team competing on Friday at Queens and the women's team swimming on Saturday against UNC Asheville and Marshall.
