The Game
Gardner-Webb takes on Conference USA foe Old Dominion in the third-place game of the 15th annual Ezybonds Global Payments US Virgin Islands Paradise Jam on Monday, November 24 at 6:00 pm ET. The game will be broadcast live on the CBS Sports Network with Danny Lee and Kevin Lehman courtside calling the action and Monyka Johnigan reporting on the sideline.
Series Notes
Old Dominion leads the all-time series with Gardner-Webb, 1-0. The Monarchs defeated the Runnin' Bulldogs 84-57 on November 18, 2000 in Norfolk, Va.
The Coaches
Gardner-Webb's Tim Craft is in his second season with the Runnin' Bulldogs, leading GWU to an 18-15 record last winter while being named a finalist for the Joe B. Hall Award.
Old Dominion's Jeff Jones is in his second season at ODU, leading the Monarchs to an 18-18 record last spring. Jones owns a 378-306 career record in 22 seasons as a head coach at Old Dominion, American and Virginia.
Last Time Out
The Seton Hall Pirates rode a 19-4 run late in the second half and outrebounded Gardner-Webb by a 48-33 margin en route to an 85-67 win in the semifinal round of the 15th annual Ezybonds Global Payments US Virgin Islands Paradise Jam on Sunday evening.
Seton Hall (3-0) shot 45.6 percent from the floor on the night, including an even 50 percent in the second half, while holding Gardner-Webb (2-2) to a field goal percentage of 36.8 percent for the game. The Pirates won the battle on the glass by a 48-33 margin, including an 18-9 advantage on the offensive boards, which resulted in 18 second-chance points.
Jerome Hill (Adel, Ga.) paced the Runnin' Bulldogs with 15 points and seven rebounds, converting 11-of-17 from the free throw line to jump into fifth on the program's all-time list with 212 career made free throws. Hill also moved into second in program history with 335 career free throw attempts.
Tyler Strange (Leominster, Mass.) added 13 points and four assists while Adonis Burbage (Orlando, Fla.) chipped in 10 points with a 2-for-3 night from downtown. Jarvis Davis (Columbia, S.C.) pulled down seven boards while Tyrell Nelson (Charlotte, N.C.) tallied nine points on 4-of-6 shooting.
Looking at Old Dominion
Old Dominion opened the Paradise Jam with a splash, defeating LSU 70-61 to advance to Sunday's semifinal round against Illinois State. The Redbirds proved too much for the Monarchs, defeating Old Dominion 64-45 Sunday to drop the Monarchs into the third-place game against the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Trey Freeman led the way for Old Dominion Sunday with 16 points as Richard Ross added 15 with a 6-for-7 night from the floor. The Monarchs, picked to finish fourth in Conference USA, advanced to the CIT Semifinals last season while posting an 18-18 record.
