BOILING SPRINGS --- Gardner-Webb senior Tyler Strange (Leominster, Mass.) added to his collection of weekly honors this afternoon, garnering Big South Conference Player of the Week recognition after being named the College Sports Madness Big South Player of the Week earlier Monday.
Strange led the Runnin' Bulldogs to a pair of landmark victories last week, averaging 14.3 points and 7.3 assists per game while lifting Gardner-Webb to victories over College of Charleston and Clemson. A native of Leominster, Mass., Strange knocked down six three-pointers on the week, including the game-tying off-balance trey in the 72-70 win over Clemson on Friday in the opener of the Paradise Jam.
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound floor general opened the week with a 12-point, eight assist performance against Charleston on Monday, converting 8-of-13 at the free throw line while committing just one turnover.
Strange followed that with easily his best game of the season against Clemson on Friday, recording his second career double-double with 18 points and a game- and season-high 10 assists, while knocking down the game-tying three with 6.6 seconds to play. He would add 13 points, four assists and four steals against Seton Hall on Sunday.
Gardner-Webb closes out the Paradise Jam in the third-place game on Monday evening, taking on Old Dominion at 6:30 pm Eastern Time on the CBS Sports Network.
