Cranfill Named Honorable Mention FCS Tight End of the Week by CFPA
November 07, 2014 | Football
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Gardner-Webb's Seth Cranfill was named honorable mention FCS Tight End of the Week by College Football Peformance Awards (CFPA), following his record-setting effort against No. 2/3 Coastal Carolina.
Cranfill (Sherrill's Ford, N.C. / Bandys HS) caught three passes for 86 yards in the game, capturing sole possession of Gardner-Webb's career tight ends receptions mark. He moved past All-Big South end Jason Bright in the process and now has 84 career catches for 858 yards and five touchdowns in just 30 games played.
Cranfill already owns Big South Conference marks for career receptions, single-season receptions (36, 2012) and single-game receptions (9 vs. Samford, 9/15/12). He is on pace to break his own single-season mark, sitting with a league-best 31 catches for 360 yards and three scores through nine games this season.
He broke another Big South Conference record against the Chanticleers, taking a pass down the seam from Lucas Beatty, breaking a tackle and outrunning the rest of the Coastal Carolina defense for a 75-yard touchdown – the longest scoring reception in the history of the league for a tight end.
The weekly recognition from CFPA is the second of the season for Cranfill. He was named to the organization's FCS Tight End of the Year Watch List in July for the second time in his career.
Gardner-Webb (4-5, 0-2 Big South) travels south to face a tough Charleston Southern squad at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 8. Kickoff is set for 11:00 am on ESPN3 (Mike Hogewood, Renaldo Wynn).
The game will also be broadcast on wgwg.org, with Fabian Fuentes and Alex Guest calling the action from Buccaneer Field.
