CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, Mass. / UMass Dartmouth) has been named the Big South Conference Defender of the Week announced the conference office on Monday.
This is the second player of the week honor for Chauvin this season, as she was named defender of the week earlier this season, for her accomplishments during the week of September 8-14.
Chauvin earned the Big South's weekly award for her performances in victories at Winthrop and High Point, where she was 1-0-1, made 18 saves, and recorded two shutouts.
This is the first time since Gardner-Webb has been a member of the Big South Conference, that one of its players has won defender of the week honors twice in one season.
Against Winthrop, Chauvin recorded six saves and posted her second shutout of the season. The victory for GWU was the first time since 2009, that the Runnin' Bulldogs won their conference opener.
In the game against High Point, Chauvin played one of her best matches of the season, as she posted a season-high 12 saves and held the Panthers scoreless despite High Point having a 30-5 advantage in shots.
Over the last five games, Chauvin has allowed just one goal in 349:49 of action.
"It is nice to see Krista get Player of the Week for her first two conference matches. The entire team played well defensively and when Krista was called upon to make saves, she was up to the task commented head coach Mike Varga. We have a great group of goalkeepers and they push each other every day".
Gardner-Webb returns to action on Wednesday evening when it hosts Costal Carolina in its Big South Conference home opener at 7:00 p.m.
