BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- The Gardner-Webb women's basketball team shot a season-high 40.0% (28-70) from the field, including a 45.0% (18-40) mark in the second half, but GeAnna Luaulu-Summers scored 37 points and went 19-22 from the foul line to lift the Pacific Tigers to an 84-77 victory, in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon in Paul Porter Arena.
Olivia Parker recorded her third straight double-double, scoring a career-high 28 points and hauling down 14 boards, while Tierra Huntsman chipped in with a career-high 21 points and 7 rebounds and Candace Brown added 11 points and eight boards to round out the double digit scorers for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Gardner-Webb struggled to hit shots from behind the three-point arc knocking down just 4-21 (19.0%), but the Runnin' Bulldogs continued to pound the glass all game long, outrebounding the Tigers 53-37, including hauling down 20 offensive boards compared to just eight for Pacific.
Despite getting outrebounded, Pacific utilized its outside shooting to help propel it to victory, knocking down 8-19 from distance, including hitting 4-7 in the first period of play.
The Runnin' Bulldogs outscored Pacific 42-30 in the paint as well as 17-8 in second chance points, but the visitors received 23 bench points, 17 of those coming from Desire Finnie.
Pacific scored the first four points of the game and would lead the entire first period, with the largest advance coming on a jumper by Finnie at the 4:06 mark, to give the Tigers a 22-9 lead, but GWU would end the half on an 11-3 run to cut the deficit to just five (25-20) after 10 minutes of play.
Midway through the second period, Lualu-Summers was fouled on a three-point attempt and hit all three of the ensuing free-throws to extend the Pacific lead to 12 (36-24), but once again the home side would continue to chip at the lead, getting as close as four (38-34) with 2:12 to go in the second half, but a free-throw by Finnie and a layup by Luaulu-Summers with five seconds left pushed the Pacific lead to seven at halftime.
Gardner-Webb cut the Pacific lead to three (62-59) with 7:03 remaining in the final period, but Pacific held the advantage for the remainder of the game, leading by as much as nine as the Tigers gave Gardner-Webb its first loss of the season 84-77.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to action Wednesday evening, when they take on defending regular-season and tournament champion Liberty at 7:00 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena.
