BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb senior Addison Abee was the recipient of the inaugural Mike Roebuck Award Thursday night, the top honor awarded at the First Annual Webbys.
Abee (Mint Hill, N.C. / Grace Academy) was a four-year starter on the pitch with the women's soccer team, earning honorable mention All-Big South honors in 2014 to help the Runnin' Bulldogs advance to the league tournament for the first time since 2011.
She started in all 18 matches this past season, recording one assist and anchoring a GWU defense that held opponents to a 1.41 goals against average – the program's best defensive production since 2010.
Abee started in 74 of 75 possible matches during her four-year career in Boiling Springs. In addition to her defensive prowess, she recorded four career assists.
In the classroom, Abee carries a 3.90 cumulative grade point average as a sociology major. Her academic performance helped her earn a spot on the NSCAA University Division Scholar All-South Region Team following the 2014 season.
The Roebuck Award, which will be given annually by the Gardner-Webb Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), is named for longtime athletics administrator Mike Roebuck.
Roebuck, 65, passed away on March 4. He was an avid runner and former triathlon participant who was in his 14th season as Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Services. He spent six more with the school as Director of Financial Aid before joining the athletics department.
