Gardner-Webb jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over Winthrop (24-18, 11-5 Big South) in the top of the second inning. Gage Parham would double to left field and would advance to third on a fielder's choice by Mason Fox.
Parham would then score on a RBI groundout by Matt Simmons to give the Runnin' Bulldogs the initial lead.

Gardner-Webb would retake the lead in the top of the seventh inning. Justin Kunz would reach on a base hit to left field, which would set up a two-run home run to left field by Sullivan to tie the game.
It was the 16th home run of the season for Sullivan, which tied the Gardner-Webb record for most home runs in a single season, set in 2000 by Sammy Pruett.
Redmond would follow with a solo shot to right field, his 13th home run of the season which gave the Diamond 'Dogs a 5-4 lead.
Jacob Whitley would reach on a double to center field, and would score later in the frame when Mason Fox reached on a throwing error by Winthrop shortstop Mitch Spires, giving GWU a 6-4 advantage.
The Eagles would pull within one run in the bottom half of the inning on a RBI double by Matthew Mulkey.
Winthrop would tie the game in the bottom of the ninth on a RBI single to center field by Scout McFalls.
The Eagles would plate the winning run in the bottom of the tenth on a bases-loaded RBI single by T Halstead with one out.
