Gardner-Webb Baseball Announces 2019 Schedule

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb University baseball announced its 2019 schedule Thursday, featuring 25 games at Bill Masters Field at John Henry Moss Stadium, plus a midweek matchup against Wake Forest at Shelby's Keeter Stadium and a Friday night bout against Appalachian State at Charlotte's BB&T Ballpark.
Gardner-Webb will face four major conference programs, as well as four 2018 NCAA Baseball Championship tournament teams.
"Our schedule for 2019 is definitely the most challenging in the history of our program with the ACC and SEC schools we will be playing," said GWU head coach Rusty Stroupe. "Our players are excited about the challenge and look forward to high level competition. We have a number of solid opponents coming to visit our campus and we look forward to hosting them at Bill Masters Field at John Henry Moss Stadium, which will look even better now that we will have field turf on the entire field. We hope our fans appreciate the aggressiveness with which we scheduled for this season and will enjoy watching us compete against some of the best programs in the country."
The Runnin' Bulldogs open the season on February 15, hosting Navy in the first of a three-game series. GWU will also host Rider in a four-game weekend series (February 22-24) and will also host Furman (February 20), Wofford (March 9), ETSU (March 13), Davidson (April 3), and Western Carolina (April 10), and in single contests.
Additional non-conference highlights include a weekend series against Appalachian State (March 1-3), with Friday's game taking place at BB&T Ballpark in uptown Charlotte, N.C., and midweek bouts at South Carolina (March 6), North Carolina (March 12), Western Carolina (March 20), Furman (March 27), Charlotte (April 16), Tennessee (April 24), and at ETSU (May 14).
The Runnin' Bulldogs will face Wake Forest on April 30 at Keeter Stadium in Shelby, N.C.
GWU will also have a home-and-home series with Clemson, with the first contest taking place on May 4 at Clemson's Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The following day the Tigers visit Bill Masters Field at John Henry Moss Stadium, marking the first time an ACC foe has visited Boiling Springs since Clemson in 2011.
The 'Dogs will also face a challenging Big South Conference schedule, which features 27 total league games.
Longwood (March 15-17), Campbell (April 5-7), Radford (April 24-27), and UNC Asheville (May 16-18) will visit Boiling Springs for three-game sets, while GWU will travel to Presbyterian (March 22-24), USC Upstate (March 29-31), Charleston Southern (April 12-14), Winthrop (April 18-20), and High Point (May 10-12).
The 2019 Big South Conference Baseball Championship will take place May 21-25 in Fayetteville, N.C. at the newly constructed Fayetteville Ballpark.
