
Gardner-Webb Duo of Howard, Sellers Earn Big South Conference Baseball Weekly Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb first baseman/outfielder Corey Howard was named the Big South Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season, while right-hander Wil Sellers earned the league's Relief Pitcher of the Week honors after a 3-1 week for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Howard (Silver Spring, Md. / Georgetown Prep) posted the Big South's highest batting average this past week at .563, going 9-for-16 at the plate with a double, a home run, seven RBI and two runs scored.
Howard had multiple base hits in each of GWU's four contests this past week and has had multiple hits in each of his last seven games. He also earned Big South Player of the Week honors on February 26.
After going 2-for-4 on Wednesday against Furman, Howard was 7-for 12 for the weekend against Presbyterian, leading the Runnin' Bulldogs to the series sweep. Howard drove in the game-winning RBI in Saturday's 5-4 win in the bottom of the seventh inning, and the junior belted a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth in Sunday's 6-5 triumph.
Sellers (Kings Mountain, N.C. / Kings Mountain H.S.) completed an inning in each of GWU's four games this past week, earning a save in all three one-run wins over Presbyterian. The redshirt-senior allowed just one base hit on the week, that taking place in Sunday's series finale, and he also allowed no walks.
With the save in Sunday's bout, Sellers set the Gardner-Webb all-time career saves record with his 24th stop.
Gardner-Webb (24-18) returns to action on Wednesday evening, facing Appalachian State at BB&T Ballpark in uptown Charlotte, N.C. as part of the 2018 Sunbelt Rentals Collegiate Baseball Series.
