August 22, 2018 | Baseball
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Garrett Odom has joined the Gardner-Webb baseball coaching staff for the 2018 season, as announced by GWU head coach Rusty Stroupe.
Odom will be the team's volunteer assistant and will work with the outfielders as well as assisting with hitting.
"We are excited to have Coach Odom as part of our staff" stated Stroupe. "His playing and coaching credentials are impressive and he has proven himself to be an outstanding young coach who is a quality person of character on and off the field."
Odom spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, where last season the team finished this past year with a 36-16 record and a top-20 national ranking.
Mississippi Gulf Coast finished the 2018 season ranked in the top-ten in the nation among junior colleges in home runs, batting average, and slugging percentage, and outfielder Brandon Parker was named the ABCA/Rawlings NJCAA Division II Player of the Year.
Before joining the coaching staff at Mississippi Gulf Coast, Odom was a member of the team for the 2013 and 2014 seasons before finishing his playing career at Division II Mississippi College.
"I feel blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of the high quality baseball program at Gardner-Webb University" said Odom. "I am proud to be a part of the outstanding tradition here and I look forward to being a part of this brotherhood."
