Gardner-Webb Baseball to host “Player Appreciation Day” on May 5 in Shelby

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Players from throughout Rusty Stroupe's coaching career will be making their way to Keeter Stadium in Shelby, N.C. on Sunday, May 5, as Gardner-Webb baseball will be hosting "Player Appreciation Day" when the Clemson Tigers come to town to take on the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Every player that has ever suited up for coach Rusty Stroupe will be invited to attend the game, with a pregame ceremony and ceremonial first pitch taking place before the Runnin' Bulldogs take on Clemson at 2:00 pm.
Stroupe, who recently announced he will be retiring from the sport at the conclusion of the 2019 season, has been at the helm of the Runnin' Bulldogs for 17 years, posting a 475-464-2 record, and will retire as the program's all-time leader in wins.
Stroupe has been a collegiate head coach for 29 seasons, with prior stints at Lander, Brevard, and North Greenville, and has an overall record of 830-698-2. Before joining the collegiate ranks, Stroupe was the head coach of West Henderson High School for four years.
Information about tickets to the game will be available at a later date.
