Gardner-Webb’s Justin Kunz Named 2019 Buster Posey Award Semifinalist

WICHITA, Kan. – Gardner-Webb senior catcher Justin Kunz has been named one of 14 semifinalists for the 2019 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award.
The award, formally known as the Johnny Bench Award, is given each year to the nation's top catcher.
Kunz paces the Runnin' Bulldogs at the plate this season, batting .323 with 14 doubles, one triple, and 10 home runs. He has driven in 37 runs and has an on-base percentage of .405.
Behind the plate, Kunz has picked off 10 batters and has thwarted 13 stolen-base attempts.
The finalists for the 2019 Buster Posey Award will be announced on June 3, with the winner being announced at the 22nd Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 27.
