Gardner-Webb Baseball Adds Four To 2020 Roster

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb head baseball coach Jim Chester has announced the addition of four student-athletes to the 2020 roster.
Joining the Runnin' Bulldogs for the upcoming season are Cam Pearcey (Sarasota, Fla. / Coastal Carolina), Joe Brazil (Potter Valley, Calif. / Mendocino College), Elijah Bowers (Matthews, N.C. / South Carolina), and Benino Mendella (Effingham, Ill. / IMG Academy).
"We are really excited about the additions to our already talented recruiting class," stated Chester. "We added immediate help to our lineup, depth, and high character young men to our program."
Pearcey comes to Boiling Springs as a graduate transfer from Coastal Carolina University. Last season was a breakout season for Pearcey, batting .303 with 14 doubles, five home runs, 31 RBI and 20 stolen bases while starting 54 of 62 games played in the outfield.
Brazil arrives to GWU from Mendocino College, where this past season he batted .311 with eight doubles, five home runs, and 31 RBI.
Bowers joins the team from South Carolina, where he redshirted. A product of nearby Weddington High, he was a 2017 Rawlings-Perfect Game honorable mention All-American and Atlantic All-Region second team selection and was ranked No. 29 overall and No. 6 at catcher in North Carolina that year by Prep Baseball Report.
Mendella joins the 'Dogs after graduating from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. earlier this year, helping lead his team to a 26-1 overall record and a No. 6 national ranking by MaxPreps.
