Baseball Tabbed Sixth in 2020 Big South Preseason Poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb baseball has been slated to finish sixth in the Big South Conference for the upcoming 2020 season, as voted by the league coaches.
The Runnin' Bulldogs received a total of 50 points in the preseason ballot, released today by the league office. Campbell was chosen as the preseason favorite, collecting seven first-place votes and 91 total points. High Point followed with 82 points.
Radford senior infielder J.D. Mundy was designated the Big South's Preseason Player of the Year, with Charleston Southern sophomore R.J. Petit earning Preseason Pitcher of the Year honors.
Gardner-Webb looks to improve upon last season's results, in which the Runnin' Bulldogs finished 25-26 overall and fifth in the Big South Conference standings. GWU returns five bats that had 20 or more starts last season, led by redshirt senior Eric Jones, who batted .282 with a pair of home runs and 13 RBI in 2019. The 'Dogs return the majority of its pitching from last season, including starters Landon Mitchell and Isaac Campbell.
Gardner-Webb baseball will host its inaugural First Pitch Celebration on Saturday, February 1 to mark the beginning of the 2020 season. The event features a Q&A with GWU baseball alumni and current Atlanta Braves pitcher Jeremy Walker.
