Gardner-Webb Baseball’s Annual Fall World Series Set for This Weekend

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb baseball team is set to begin the 2020 Dawg Bone World Series this Thursday evening at Bill Masters Field at John Henry Moss Stadium, wrapping up the fall schedule with a three-game series set to conclude Saturday afternoon.
After taking part in several highly competitive squad games throughout the fall, a draft was held to set the rosters for both the Red and Black squads.
The Red Team features veteran leadership in Cam Pearcey, who led GWU with seven extra base hits, including two home runs, and 11 RBI in 2020, as well as from JP McGuire, Keiji Parkhurst, and Joe Brazil.
Graduate transfer Mason Miller, who has been stellar throughout the fall, will make an impact on the mound for the Red Team, as will junior college transfers Connor Gleeson and Troy Lincavage.
Several freshmen are featured on the Red Team as well, including Casey Young, Hunter Youngblood, Ben Wilcoxin, and Pete Capobianco.
The Black Team features a wealth of experience, led by redshirt-senior Eric Jones, who returns for a sixth year as a Runnin' Bulldog. Mitch McLendon, who led the 'Dogs last season with a .314 batting average, and Ben LaSpaluto, who played all games at shortstop last season, also contribute veteran leadership.
Veteran Isaac Campbell, who led Gardner-Webb with 25 strikeouts last season, returns for a fifth year to lead the arms of the Black Team, which also features depth from returners Noah Davis and Kyle Ruehlman and junior college transfer Sebasten Boivin.
New faces to the GWU program on the Black Team include graduate transfers Dom Peroni, Joe Simone, and Patrick Ferguson, as well as freshmen Lenny Washington and AJ Jones.
The 2020 Dawg Bone World Series opens Thursday evening at 6:15 pm with a five-inning game, with live coverage on Twitter at @GWUBaseball. Friday and Saturday's games will both be nine-inning contests and will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Friday's first pitch is set for 5:00 pm, with Saturday's bout slated for a noon start time.
