Women’s Soccer Falls To High Point In Double Overtime
October 16, 2021 | Women's Soccer
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team took on High Point in their final regular season home game of 2021. Falling to the Panthers, the Runnin' Bulldogs lost with a final score of 3-2, in double overtime.
"I'm proud of how we played tonight," said head coach Mike Varga. "Katelyn played an incredible match for us in goal. We scored 2 nice goals and we knew High Point wouldn't go away. They are a good side but we went toe-to-toe tonight and just happened to come out on the wrong side but we had a lot of good performances and now have to play with the same energy and organization on the road to give us a chance to get into the tournament."
Just two minutes into the game, Jaasiel Forde opened up the scoring for GWU off of an assist from Maddie Turlington.
The Panthers answered back in the 37th minute, as Juliette Vidal scored off of a touch from Carsyn Gold.
Taking back the lead for the 'Dogs Maddie Turlington scored in the 71st minute off of a pass from Marina Bradic.
High Point then netted another equalizer in the 80th minute, which sent the game into double overtime, and the Panthers scored in the 107th minute to take the win.
The Panthers paced the night in shots with 21, as the Runnin' Bulldogs had just five.
In goal for GWU, Katelyn Kellogg recorded 13 monster saves throughout the 110 minutes of match play.
The 'Dogs will be back in action on Wednesday, October 20th, as they travel to USC Upstate to take on the Spartans. The action is set to start at 7:00 pm.
