McIntosh Captures Third Big South Libero of the Week Honor This Season
November 01, 2021 | Volleyball
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the third time this season, Gardner-Webb University sophomore Mikah McIntosh has been named the Big South Conference Libero of the Week, the league announced Monday.
The weekly honor comes on the heels of a 46-dig performance on Saturday in Gardner-Webb's final home match of the season against UNC Asheville. McIntosh's dig total established a new single-match high in the NCAA for this season, besting Jada Taylor of Grambling's mark of 45 against Southern in early October. She also fell two digs shy of equaling the Big South single-match digs record in a five-set contest (48).
McIntosh's 46 digs also set a new school record as the Miami, Florida native became just the second Gardner-Webb player to ever eclipse 40 digs in a match. She joins former Runnin' Bulldog Katie Matykowski, who previously held the school record in which she set over 14 years ago in 2007.
McIntosh also becomes the first player in program history to earn the Big South's weekly defensive honor three times in the same season.
Improving her average to 5.40 digs per set, McIntosh has now cracked the top 10 and ranks ninth overall in the nation following a pair of double-digit outings over the weekend. She also posted 17 digs in Friday's three-set match against USC Upstate.
McIntosh, who has totaled 14 or more digs in all but one conference game this season, now holds a 6.59 digs per set average in Big South play. That checks in as nearly two more than Campbell's Charanne Fechter in second (4.89) and over two more than High Point's Jenny Wessling in third (4.56).
Gardner Webb, now 7-15 on the year and 4-8 in conference action, will return to work this upcoming weekend at Presbyterian on Friday, November 5 at 6 p.m. and at Charleston Southern on Saturday, November 6 at 2 p.m.
