Diamond 'Dogs Ink Pair of Standouts Wednesday To Fuel Class of 2022 Recruiting

BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb baseball signed a pair of talented student-athletes National Letters of Intent on Wednesday, creating momentum for recruiting in the the Class of 2022.
The Diamond 'Dogs signed infielder Ryan Kennell (6-0, 180) of Westland, Mich., and catcher Erick Delgado (5-11, 190) from Miami, Fla.
Kennell enjoyed a tremendous junior season in 2021 for Churchill High, batting .530 and garnering first-team MHSBCA All-State honors, PBR Michigan Select 25 All-State honors and team MVP. He is a Perfect Game/Rawlings preseason All-America choice as well for the Class of 2022.
"We couldn't be more excited to add Ryan to the Gardner-Webb Baseball family," said GWU head coach Jim Chester. "He is blue collar, and will make an immediate impact on campus."
Delgado plays Gulliver Prep and batted .283 with 14 RBI in 23 games last spring as a junior. He earned a strong grade of 8.5 from Perfect Game and has posted a POP time as quick as 1.87 seconds.
"Erick is a special talent behind the dish from the talent rich area of Miami, Fla.," added Chester. "He is a perfect fit for Gardner-Webb and our baseball program."
Gardner-Webb is in the midst of its fall practice season and will hit the diamond for its 2022 regular season on Friday, February 18 against NCAA regional participant NJIT.
